All tricks and creeps! Loved it!
This is a short story about a man who meets two other younger guys while traveling on a train cart. He quickly learns about a spooky story about a killer ghost called “The Bone King.” Is it just a scary story to keep kids in line or a real haunted circus mystery?
I found this story to be so much fun and so atmospheric. It follows the whole traditional horror of curses, a scorned mother and revenge. This is definitely a type of story to read around a campfire at night.
I think circuses are creepy in general and this gave that vibe perfectly. The beginning was engaging and the ending was intense. Overall a solid short story and my first by this author.
Because of how much I enjoyed this I’m considering reading the rest of the anthology it is originally from Carnival Macabre: An Anthology of Gothic Horror.
5/5 stars
