[Book Thoughts] LOVE AND FORMALDEHYDE by C.M. Guidroz

SYNOPSIS:

Love and Formaldehyde is for ages 18+ readers. Some scenes are graphic, which means they get busy, do the nasty, bump and grind, get it on, get it in, and any other way of saying that the sexual scenes in this book are detailed and explicit.

Dani just got a job as a mortuary assistant in a new town miles aways from her broken home. Her plan is to make a new life for herself and her brother Alex in this new town. What she doesn’t know is that this fresh start includes an Edgar Allan Poe quoting silver fox, secrets, betrayal, ghosts and even murder.

When I went into this book, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen since I read Guidroz’s other story about “Charlie”–I was braced for the worst and really…this was mellow compared to that one.

This is about a young woman starting her life over in a new town in order to escape her toxic childhood home and to be able to support her younger brother. She’s in the funeral business and gets a job at a small funeral home and unexpectedly might of found the love of her life. Soon things come to the surface and secrets are slowly revealed, worlds are flipped upside down.

I don’t want to say much more of the types of horror this has because of spoiling any twists but I wanted to point out that I actually enjoyed the smuttier parts of this. I for some reason wasn’t expecting there to be as much of a love story (yes I know the word is in the title) but I am still scarred from C.M’s last story so this was a little refreshing.

There are some gross moments but nothing is too detailed on the page which I think would make some of the triggering things a little more subtle and digestible. I think this might be a good start to C.M.’s work if you aren’t into super disgusting, in your face horror.

Overall, this was a quick entertaining read. If you like horrific topics, complicated love stories and happy endings (pun intended) then give this one a shot.

*I’m currently not giving star ratings and just focusing on reviews.
